Ten days ago, our KLM flight touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Though we arrived just over a week ago, we feel like we have been living in Kenya for at least a month. The flurry of settling into a new home, trying to build new friendships, and getting internet at our house (a particularly maddening affair) has kept us on our toes.
We are living on a small Embassy compound of 20 houses in the Westlands neighborhood of Nairobi. Most of the other families on our compound have young kids as well, and several attend our church. The boys have enjoyed making new friends and swimming almost every day in the bathwater-warm pool.
Our house does not have a yard, but we do have a small herb garden and a nice patio in back. There is a shared playground, pool, and community center, which helps in getting to know our neighbors.
The bush behind Ethan is rosemary…plants grow REALLY big here. Pointsettias become trees, and the concept of “annual” does not exist as there is no winter to kill plants off.

Glad to know you are getting settled!! Hope you have some great recipes that use Rosemary!!!
I also meant to say…that I love your house’s facade…pretty cool architecture detailing. fun fun.
Welcome!! It looks absolutely beautiful and the safari looked like fun. Hope Laurie is feeling better.
Would love to have your new mailing address when possible. Much love!
